Protectosil BHN reacts with the boundary surfaces in pores and capillaries of the mineral surface and forms and invisible, water repellent boundary.

In the corrosion process, ferrous oxide (rust) takes up more volume than the original steel and causes stress on the concrete. This stress manifests itself as cracks, spalls and delaminations in the concrete structure. But the main consequence of concrete corrosion is the loss of steel cross section and the resulting loss of structural capacity. The three main factors affecting the corrosion rate are the concentrations of chloride ions, moisture and oxygen. Other factors, such as temperature, also contribute to the speed of the corrosion process. Warm, humid environments, such as coastal areas, accelerate the corrosion process and cause very rapid deterioration.

A clear penetrating breathable VOC-compliant surface treatment for use on concrete, brick masonry, concrete masonry units and natural stone. The unique silane treatment penetrates into the substrate and chemically bonds with silica to form a permanent attachment of the water repellent molecule.
In addition, an oil repellent additive resists the ingress of motor oil, transmission fluid, diesel fuel and other automotive fluids. This additive also repels food products such as mustard, ketchup, food grease, milk, wine, beer and soft drinks. Creates a deep hydrophobic layer which prevents the ingress of water and water borne contaminants from entering the substrate and causing premature deterioration.
